Condor Climate Contribution

Responsibility and Sustainability are an integral part of Condor's corporate culture. We are aware that long-term business success is only possible if we take the environmental impact of our actions into account – both at our company headquarters in Germany and our numerous destinations around the globe. By making a climate contribution, you are joining us in supporting the following three projects by our partner myclimate as well as the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). You can choose from eight different climate packages. You may even make a greater contribution than for your pure flight by buying a climate contribution exceeding the CO2 footprint of your Condor flight as indicated on our website, and therefore you can also take responsibility for your trip to the airport or your CO2 footprint at your destination.

Projects We Support

Agroforestry support program in Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Liechtenstein

In Europe, less than 10% of agricultural land still hosts traditional agroforestry systems; the name given to the type of land use that brings together trees, agriculture, meadows and pastures. Agroforestry benefits nature in countless ways: fruit and deciduous tree species draw CO2 from the atmosphere, groundwater is safeguarded, soil is protected against erosion and the areas become valuable habitats for a wide variety of animal species.

However, successfully establishing these agroforestry systems requires high initial investment costs and continuous maintenance costs, the cost of which farms will only recoup in the medium to long term. This is why there are only a few hundred farms in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein that have established modern agroforestry systems.

This project aims to change that. The multinational program provides funding for the planting and growing of trees on agricultural land. Costs for seedlings and growing the agroforest environment are compensated by grants from this project, one tree at a time.

Solar power plant replaces fossil energy in the Dominican Republic

Two workers in safety vests and helmets installing solar panels under a partly cloudy sky in the Dominican Republic.

Electricity for 50,000 Dominican households: this project built a 60-megawatt solar power plant in the province of Monte Plata to supply renewable, locally produced electricity. This kind of solar power system replaces electricity generated mainly by oil with solar energy and creates local jobs. With sunshine all year around, 100 gigawatt hours of electricity are generated annually for the local population.

Once the second phase of the project is implemented, almost 70,000 tons of CO2 will be saved every year. In addition, a visitor center has been set up on the site of the solar power plant to demonstrate the possibilities of renewable energies and promote climate education.

Savings groups enable women to afford efficient cook stoves in Kenya

This project set up a community savings and loan group for the rural communities of the Siaya region in western Kenya. These savings groups are important because people in the countryside are typically not able to get a loan from normal banks that require a fixed income as collateral. Women in particular benefit from the savings and loan group because the secure financing options enable them to become independent. On average, 15 women meet two to four times a month. They join together to form "financial institutions" that make decisions together and strengthen each other. For example, many of them can afford medical health care, school fees, high-quality seeds or an efficient cooking stove.

Traditionally, cooking is done on open fires in rural communities, which consumes vast amounts of firewood. The locally produced stoves lead to a reduced demand for firewood, which protects local forests and reduces CO2 emissions. This saves households money and the time it takes to gather firewood, plus the more efficient combustion process significantly improves the air quality inside the houses.

The project helps to subsidize half of the price of each cooking stove. An interest-free loan is granted for the remaining 1,000 shillings, equivalent to around 8 euros. The women must pay off this loan within two years.

Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)

SAF is an umbrella term for all aviation fuels that are produced without the use of fossil raw materials such as petroleum. These fuels reduce the CO2 footprint by up to 80% over petroleum-based products. They are blended with conventional fossil fuel kerosene for use in aviation.

Alternative fuels are the only way to reduce the carbon footprint of aviation with existing technology. SAF will be purchased over the next 12 months as part of a voluntary additional climate contribution in quantities that exceed the legally prescribed quantities.

Our cooperation partner myclimate

Condor has found a reliable and strategic partner in the charitable non-profit organization myclimate. The international climate protection organization with Swiss roots sees itself as a partner for effective climate protection – globally and locally. The climate protection projects developed and supported by myclimate have created thousands of jobs, protected biodiversity and improved the general living conditions of hundreds of thousands of people since the foundation was established.

If you would like to find out more, the official myclimate website provides comprehensive information about the non-profit organization, its projects and climate protection in general. You can also visit the myclimate FAQ page for more background information.

Your Climate Contribution

You can make a climate contribution for every Condor flight you take and the CO2 it generates. This contribution will be used proportionately to support the three climate projects by our renowned partner myclimate as well as for increasing our use of SAF in fueling our aircraft.

You can choose from eight different climate packages, which you can either add directly when you book your flight or afterwards via My Booking.

You may even make a greater contribution than for your pure flight by buying a climate contribution exceeding the CO2 footprint of your Condor flight as indicated on our website, and therefore you can also take responsibility for your trip to the airport or your CO2 footprint at your destination.

The following section explains the proportions of the climate contribution in the respective packages that are channeled into the three selected climate protection projects and the use of SAF:

  • Climate contribution 50 kg CO2: approx. 80% climate projects and approx. 20% SAF
  • Climate contribution 100 kg CO2: approx. 85% climate projects and approx. 15% SAF
  • Climate contribution 150 kg CO2: approx. 87% climate projects and approx. 13% SAF
  • Climate contribution 200 kg CO2: approx. 87.5% climate projects and approx. 12.5% SAF
  • Climate contribution 250 kg CO2: approx. 88% climate projects and approx. 12% SAF
  • Climate contribution 400 kg CO2: approx. 87.5% climate projects and approx. 12.5% SAF
  • Climate contribution 500 kg CO2: approx. 88% climate projects and approx. 12% SAF
  • Climate contribution 600 kg CO2: approx. 88% climate projects and approx. 12% SAF
